A Simple Act of Kindness

April 13, 2021

Juanita* and her children were living at a shelter for more than a year. Sitting at the park watching her children play, Juanita began to cry. A woman sitting on the bench next to her saw the tears and asked if she was all right. Susan* listened to Juanita’s story and also shared her own story. That simple act of kindness began a friendship, and this past month Susan’s church began Neighboring Juanita through Bridge of Hope. Juanita is thriving. They moved out of the shelter into their own place. She loves her job, is working to finish her GED (just one class to go!) and is realizing that she can, with hard work, provide for her children. And she is learning to take care of herself. Despite the pandemic, her Neighboring Volunteers are finding great ways to support the family. They are excited to get together for a safely distanced birthday party this month. Neighboring is made up of simple acts of kindness, which make a world of difference.
